A dove was flying, holding her bag –
Let’s go, let’s go back to your yesterday self
Holding our prayers, our aesthetics
Let’s turn our back to the Moon and let’s go, let’s go
Aah, the sea burned away
Aah, I felt like I’ve been born the moment my breath stopped

All the crowds running in spite of everything – I know them, I know them
And I walk the shop district without going against them – Yet I wanted to live as who we were back then

The new world is sparkling with light, smeared in greed, smeared in greed
And what runs over my limbs is the Nankai main line – Where will it go? Misaki Park.

kakawarazu hashiru shinsekai yoku otozureta yoku otozureta

The new world is running in spite of everything – I know that, I know that

Notes:

– Second stanza: “yoku otozureru” usually means “visits often”, so in a sense it’s a sentence which states familiarity with something. That’s why I’ve translated it this way.
– Fourth stanza: “Nankai honsen” is a railway line in Oosaka, which also stops in Misaki, famous for its park (click each words for more infos). Don’t question much about this whole stanza: Midori lyrics are mostly random nonsense.

kotoba wa chiru yo haru no owari ni
nante hakanai no kana

Words are scattering away, at the end of Spring
Just how ephemeral are they, I wonder?

haikei kimi wa ogenki desu ka
boku wa kawarazu ano koro no mama desu
kimi to futari sugoshita kisetsu
mienai mono made tashika ni mieteita

My dear, how are you doing?
I’m still the same unchanged self from back then
The seasons I’ve spent with you
Made me clearly see even what I couldn’t see at all

kotoba wa chiru yo haru no owari ni

Words are scattering away, at the end of Spring
Words are scattering away, at the end of Spring
Words are scattering away, at the end of Spring
How fleeting they are…

hitotsu hitotsu tsumugi dashiteku
natsukashii kimi yo osanaki kioku yo
ichido kiri no shiawase wa sugi
chikaku ni atta mono made kieteita

I’ll put them all together, one by one
Those childish, nostalgic memories of you –
The once in a lifetime happiness is gone by now
And even what was right next to it disappeared along

Notes:

– “Haikei” (second stanza) is a word used at the beginning of written letter. The best thing it could be in English may be “Dear…” or something like that.
– The last stanza is repeated more than once throughout the ending. Also, the male voice whispers something by the end, but it’s unclear and not reported in the booklet.

Swing

Request system won’t be available anymore (previous post), but feel free to share music with me w/ comments / messages / mails, I’d be glad to hear more japanese music and translate more stuff!
Here’s a new Midori post (lots are coming in the near future) to start (or at least try it) posting again regurarly~

Swing

koishikute yureru hakanasa ni naita
wakari yasuku ai o kureru hito o idaita

Swaying around, nostalgic, shedding tears in transience
Holding arms around the person who gave me an easy to understand love

yukidoke wa hayakute majiri au no

Snow quickly thaws, commingling with them

a i ta i a i ta i
a a a i ta i

I-want-to-meet-you
A-a-and it hurts

kanji yasuku nurete kizu tsuita yuugure
asahakana kinou doujinai ashita

The wet, easy to feel scarred daybreak
Between a shallow yesterday and perturbed tomorrow

kowaku wa nai nda kore kara saki wa

But I’m not scared – not from now on

a i ta i a i ta i
a a a i ta i

I-want-to-meet-you
A-a-and it hurts

yoshi yoshi, ii ko da.
hitori pocchi, usagi, tsukamaeta

There, there, good girl.
You managed to catch a rabbit, all by yourself.

Notes:

– I think the second stanza is referring to the “tears” in the first one (so “them” = “the tears”).
– The third stanza is written in detached hiragana, so it could be read in two ways: “aitai” (会いたい, “I want to meet you”) and “a, itai” (あ、痛い, “Oh, it hurts”). I think it’s a kind of pun she’s making over there. The music video seem to confirm this, writing both compound in different ways.

Looking down to the passing of days from her broken room

I ended up forgetting
Things such as loving someone
I ended up being tired
Of things such as loving someone, for today

Everyone unintentionally eats their own happiness away –
With who, which type of person I’ll sleep with tonight?

Mass Of The Fermenting Dregs –

sabishii sabishii omoi wa itsumo
ato kara ato kara tsuite kuru
kawashita yakusoku motsureta kioku
hitahita ni hitaru ano uta

Thoughts of loneliness and desolation
Are always following me, one after another
The memory bound to the promise we’ve exchanged
Is gradually being soaked in that song

isoge isoge ano ko no koe ga
omoidasenaku naru mae ni
kiri toru keshiki ano hi no you ni
yurameku kieru tooku natte yuku

Hurry up, hurry up
Before you won’t be able to remember that girl’s voice
The teared off scenery looks like that day’s
Flickering and disappearing, growing so distant…

Notes:

– First of all, I’ve been looking for these lyrics since the day this song came out, but I’ve find out only today the whole song was an arrange of Natsuko Miyamoto‘s solo acoustic project song by the same name, and it was really easy for me to understand the lyrics from this acoustic version. I’m really happy to be finally able to post this song!
– Second, there could be some differences between my version and the actual lyrics. For instance, “mukou-kawa” should be “mukou-gawa”, but I can clearly hear “ka” over “ga”. Usually “mukou-k/gawa” means “other side”, but giving that it says “siren” after it, I initially thought it could have been 川 /河 (“kawa”, “river”), but I’ve kept 側 because it made more sense, in a general way. Other examples could be 縺れた (“motsureta”) on the first stanza which could have been も連れた (“mo tsureta”)、the meaning doesn’t change that much if we keep in count that “motsureru” is “to be tangled” and “tsureru” is “to drag along”.
– Last note, the whole song repeats again from the beginning to the end, so from the last stanza is da capo for one more time. The “papapa” stanza is longer than a verse and repeated throughout the ending of the song.

ZERO SOUNDS –

ZERO SOUNDS –

Somewhere between the repeating breaking waves, voices are resounding together – but why?
The evening glistening dew faintly swept over the flag it covered

kireina doresu kireina kutsu ni kireina watashi de itai to negau
arigachi na yume wa tsuyu to suteta iza unabara e to

And I pray to be there, beautiful, wearing a gorgeous dress and pretty shoes
But this dream I was used to have was thrown away by the rainy season into the ocean

kimi to egaki kimi to ayumi kimi to aoida risou ni wa
nanimo kamo ga oyobanai watashi o tsukuri ageshi hana
kimi to egaki kimi to ayumi kimi to yorisou hakumusou
iki o suru you ni hora watashi o sotto tsutsunde

What I’ve drawn with you, the steps I’ve took with you, the ideals we both looked up to
Nothing of that will ever reach us, they’re just a fabricated flower I made
What I’ve draw with you, the steps I’ve took with you, and this faint reverie of getting closer…
They’re gently wrapping me up, feeling like a breath

kireina doresu kireina kutsu ni kireina watashi de itai to negau
chippoke na yume wo awa ni shite kimi no tame ni dekiru koto ga aru no

And I pray to be there, beautiful, wearing a gorgeous dress and pretty shoes…
I’ve turned such fleeble dream into foam – is there really something I could do for your sake?

kimi to egaki kimi to ayumi kimi to aoida risou ni wa
nanimokamo ga oyobanai watashi o tsukuri ageshi hana
kimi o egaki kimi e ayumi kimi ni yorisou hakumusou
iki o suru you ni hora watashi o sotto tsutsumi
watashi ni sotto furete kimi o omou sazanami e

What I’ve drawn with you, the steps I’ve took with you, the ideals we both looked up to
Nothing of that will ever reach us, they’re just a fabricated flower I made
What I’ve draw with you, the steps I’ve took with you, and this faint reverie of getting closer…
They’re gently embracing me, feeling like a breath
And as I lay a finger over them, ripples of your memories spread

Notes:

– The lyrics aren’t took from a booklet / scans. I’ve found them online, so there’s a chance they’re not 100% correct. The vocals are clean and clear enough to help me believe the lyrics are right, though.
– “yusagui” on the first stanza was one of the greatest translation issues. I’ve found that “yusa” could be used to refer to large swaying things, so I thought it may implied a flag, giving we’re talking about warships. Thus, that’s how I’ve decided to translate it a long and not-so-satisfying weblio / dictionary research. “gui” is probably attached to “kasumu” after it, and while it usually stands for “to eat”, it could also mean “to be attached”. It made sense with my “flag” interpretation, so I don’t think that’s the main problem here.
– On the second to last stanza, right after “yume”, I don’t know if it’s whether “yo” or “wo” (/”o”). The meaning won’t change, but the “yo” would have made the sentence a bit more pompous sounding.

My Dead Girlfriend – Sweet Days and Her Last Kiss *

swdet

It’s true that 感激宴会 – kangeki enkai was the wordpress which collected each My Dead Girlfriend‘s songs (also, the band knows and supports that website), but I wanted to post this song so dear to me in here, as I’ve stated on the previous post.
I love this song so much and I tried finding its lyrics literally EVERYWHERE, without results. I transcribed the lyrics from a cover video I found online, in which the vocals were clearer. I still have some doubts about the lyrics, but there will be the notes covering that problem.
Also, it took me a while to publish this post because I also wanted to upload the subbed song on my youtube account, without having someone else doing it before me (it’s always like this).
Sweet days and her last kiss“, isn’t it a great title? This song is also known as “Haru no Hachiouji” during lives. Hachiouji is a place in Japan (part of Tokyo if I’m not wrong), and if I remember correctly is the place in which the leader of the band spent his youth / university years in.
In fact, there are 4 songs talking about Hachiouji, one for each season: fuyu (winter) no Hachiouji, aki (fall) no Hachiouji, natsu (summer) no Hachiouji and this one, which is haru (spring) no Hachiouji.
This is one of the first song I’ve discovered by them and it’s one of the ones I love the most, just like Watashi no Aishita Manatsu no Shinigami, Nou ni Tokeru Asobi and My Piggish Girl Died Miserably.
I hope you’ll enjoy this post. Love.

Notes:

陽春 on the first stanza is something I’m not sure of. It fit pretty well so I left it. If it’s wrong, please let me know and I’ll fix it ASAP.
飛び降りて on the first stanza: same thing.
– 流石 on the last stanza (repeated 4 times, by the way) is the thing I’m less sure about. I keep hearing “sasupa” or “sasuba” or “sansupa” or something like that, but all of these seems to be name of brands. I used a “sasuga” which is pretty vague and fit nicely the lyrics.
– [EDIT 16/01/2017] I just listened to a live version in which I could hear 帽子 (“boushi”, “hat”) REALLY clearly instead of “youshun”. And it made sense really easily. Again, in the same video, I could hear “aozamete” (pale) instead of “aratamete”. I’m still not sure about “Sasuga”, though. Everything else should be fixed by now.
