envy – An Insignificant Poem

towa ni tsudzuku saki ni todoita tameiki
keshita koe wa kokoro de sakebi todoki
kareta koe o kimi no kizu ni kaete
kimi o someru subete o mitsuke irodzuke
yami ni migite o kakete uketa koukai
ten ni fureta asa ni hibiku neiro
tsukamu ude o harau ishi no shirushi
mukachina hibi wa nakute susumu kaze

The sighs you let out before will resound forever
Its disappeared voice will scream through your soul
And the dried out lament will change into your scar
I’ll find everything coloring you and paint it anew
By placing my right hand into the darkness I was prized regrets
But your colors resound in every point touched by the morning
That’s the sign of my will to purify my clutched arm
So the wind will blow on over no insignificant days

mihatenu yume o iku to kimeta ketsui ni
fuite chiru nagi o kikoeta kasumu sora ni

My decision to keep on going through unfulfilled dreams
Scattered, blown away by the calm of a misty sky I could hear

yubi de kesenai hirogaru ashiato mitsuke
saigo no kodou ga kizamu sekai o shiri
hieta naraku ni ochita kanashiki shimei
kirete hareta yubi ga sen o kesu
kawaita kokoro o tsurushi hizashi ni mukete
yanda hai wa jibun o utsushi yurete
junan no hate de umareta shi o shirushi
shirokute mienu kage ni obieta asu ga
ame no sora o matsu nozomi no inori
kumoru yoru ni chikai no nemuri o sasage

I’ll find the spreading footprints I can’t clear away with my fingers
So I’ll know what the world would look like once it will reach its last heartbeat
The last, grieving errand fell down a frozen hades
And my cut, swollen fingers are clearing the line away
I hang up my dried heart, facing it towards the sunlight
The suffering ashes reflect my wavering self
I’m writing the poem born at the end of such agony
As tomorrow, frightened of its white, unseen shadow
Waits for a rainy sky to accept its prayer of desire
Offering its vow of sleep to the cloudy night

kimi o sasu hikari wa muku no ai ni kawaru
kimi o uragiru hikari wa mujou no ai ni kawaru

The light piercing you turns into a pure love
The light betraying you turns into an inanimate love

himitsu no hane ni tsunagaru irodori

Linking itself to your secret wings and coloring them

– The first part of the second to last stanza is repeated before the last stanza. I didn’t put it here ‘cause it wasn’t featured on the booklet.
– May be hard to read this post if read on a tablet / smartphone. Works fine on any computer (translated font color is white)
– An alternate English translation of this song and every other song from the same album by Katsuya Kokubu is featured on the album’s official booklet.

envy – Footsteps in the Distance

kono te ni michiru tsudzuke to negau kagayaki o
asu o aiseru you ni to negau chiru hikari
shibatta te o toki nobasu kimi no ibasho
kibou ni michita suki tooru kokoro no uta
osanaki kotoba ni kaoru yoi no kazairo
sumu neiro no nagareru toketa yoru
kasumu asa ni mieru kesshite sutenai nukumori

A falling light is praying, as if loving the day yet to come
Praying for such radiance to keep on filling its hands
Outstretching my previously fastened hands over the place where you are
Singing a song for a transparent heart full of hope
The colored wind of the fragrant evening blows over our childish words
And the night is flowing, melt down by its purified timbre;
In the hazy morning I saw a warmth I could never throw away

sodateta toki wa mushoku ni kawari
kanadeta oto hiroi ni mukai
todoku kane wa towa ni hibiki
kaeru basho ni ibuki o tsurete

The time I grew up with changed to become colorless
As I set off to pick up the sounds I used to dance to
The bells of arrival will resonate for the eternity
Dragging their breath towards the place to return

asu ni tsudzuku mirai no kibou o

The hope of an unbroken future will continue tomorrow

aogi utaeta yakusoku kanai
furi houtta kanata ni chikai
hodoite ukabu kanashimi matoi
hade kidzuita ashioto o tsurete

So I’ll make all the promises I’ve sung to the skies come true
I’m making this oath before the set-free distance
Wearing this fleeting, unsew sadness
I’ll follow the footsteps I could hear at its ends

saite negatta kawaru hibi o
chitte shitta aeka no kimi o
atara ni suteta kodoku no inochi
nigiri shinjitai utakata no kage o

All the bloomed, everchanging days I’ve prayed for
And you, who I know were going to disappear…
I want to hold firmly that life thrown away with regrets
And believe in it, believe in that fleeting shadow

– Maybe it’s a bit too late to make this note, but, generally speaking, envy’s songs aren’t really following an order, and each stanza is not made of long sentences. They’re rather composed of single short verses placed all together, as if they were a collection of short poems. So it’s difficult to translate them while trying to keep an overall structure the song didn’t have to begin with. I’m not saying my translations are perfect, but in Atheist’s Cornea case, if they’re not really that literal it’s because I’m trying to arrange them into bigger sentences, to make them appear together as one. Just keep this in mind for this post, the previous four and the next three to come.
– The final, talked section of this song isn’t featured in the booklet. I’ve tried to transcript what I hear, but there are some sections where the instruments are too loud and I can’t really tell what he’s saying. Here’s just the last bit, which I’m almost 100% sure about: 叶わぬことが君にあるのなら立ち止まり意味を何度でも最初で最後はすぐ後ろにあって僕を追い越し振り返る次を問う終わりが始まり誰かの求め笑え嘘絶やした言葉わかれよ足跡ただ一つ救えがあるなら僕はここに戻るよ。(“And if there are things you couldn’t grant yourself, than the reason to stand still will always be there behind you from the beginning to the end, passing over me, and by the time I look back, the questions from the end will begin to be seek by someone, smiling in lies, so it’s time to part away from all the wiped out words’ footprints; but if there would be a single way to be rescued, than I’ll return here for sure.”)
– An alternate English translation of this song and every other song from the same album by Katsuya Kokubu is featured on the album’s official booklet.

envy – Ticking Time and String

nayameru ito ni fureta yoake
kioku o meguru yume no tsudzuki o

The daybreak touched by the worried string
Sorrounds my memories, continuing its dream

aki ni umu kotoba yozora o terasu kimi
tsunda ha o irodoru mushin no haku’u

You found hope in tomorrow
On that morning where you woke up from your sleep
Beside me, I can hear your voice
In this world of light I’ve lost that pouring feeling of missing
Your eyes blinking, your averting gaze
The smile of the stars I’ve found and won’t ever let die
And the trembling warmth held by that hand
I now realized what ties them together, it’s our heartbeats
Your words born in Autumn, brightening up the night sky
Are like an innocent rain shower coloring down the piled up fallen leaves

mebuita hana ga irodoru negai o
kokoro o meguru yume no owari o

For a wish colored by the sprout out flower
For the end of a dream surrounding my soul

– The 辿る on the first stanza is not read as “tadoru” (to follow) but as “meguru” (巡る, to go around / to return / to surround).
– An alternate English translation of this song and every other song from the same album by Katsuya Kokubu is featured on the album’s official booklet.

envy – Shining Finger

tomoshita kodoku ga terasu yamima

kazoeta mayoi no yoru o koeta shinkan
ito o tsutau kodou no toikake
nokosareta kaori ni tokeru yubisaki
katarikaketa kotoba wa ame ni kesare
samayou jiseki ga sakende ochita

The darkest spot shined upon by my brightened loneliness
Grieves over the concealed, entwined distances
The silence beyond all the nights of hesitation I’ve been counting
Are questions of an heartbeat conveyed by the wires
My fingertips are melting in the leftover scent
And the words left unspoken are erased by the rain
My wandering, shouting self-reproach has fallen down

The hazy morning Sun
Will lead me into tomorrow, time will lead me into it
The dim sky
Is being touched by my hand, I’m grasping it
All the days I’m patching together
Are placing you in the past, and your past, now
Is calling for a reason to continue, held by frozen arms

kareta yuukyuu no aozora o tsukami
utaeta anshou no himitsu wa ikusen no sugata
namae o yonda amamizu o sagashite

Seizing the blue sky of withered eternity
The secret reef I’ve sung of takes countless shapes
Looking for the rain water it called upon

mitsumeta kouro ga ukanda boushu
shuuen no kakera o sagashita shiratsuyu
katate ni afureta suna no yukige
nemuru koe ga sagashita fuyu no kanro

The route I’ve been observing reminded me of late Spring
As the glistening dew was looking for fragments of demise
The grains of melting snow overflowing from my hand
Are winter dew drops found by a sleeping voice

The blurred moonlight
Will lead you to the eternity, will embrace you all the way
The fragrant water’s surface
Will wet my shining finger, the words I’ll be giving birth to
Our connected gazes
Will always be right before you, and you’ll always be there
‘Cause I could see a reason to continue inside a gentle wound

– Second to last stanza: 芒種 (boushu) is a word indicating the “grain in ear” solar term, which starts approximately on June 6. Thus, my translation. Again, 寒露 (kanro) can both mean early-winter dew (literally) or the “cold dew” solar term, which starts around October 8. For this one I’ve chosen the first one, because there’s also “fuyu” (winter) which can’t be meaning a period at the beginning of Fall.
– There’s no “wet” verb in the last stanza, but it’s implied there is a verb related to the “water” subject before. So, I added it because it was my first choice. My second to be honest. It would have been better “to shine”, but I’ve chosen not to, ‘cause “shining finger” (which is also the song’s title) appears clearly shortly thereafter.
– An alternate English translation of this song and every other song from the same album by Katsuya Kokubu is featured on the album’s official booklet.

envy – Ignorant Rain at the End of the World

iki o hisome yume de matsu

mukizu no hibi kieta kokyuu
you o yurashi ochiru imi
modoru basho ni kaze wa itsumo
iro mo naku sodatsu kokoro
hana wa kare tsudzutta kioku

Concealing their breath, waiting inside a dream
All those who run after broken fragments
Place their cold eyes over the next nourishment
As their breath disappeared back on those flawless days
The meaning falls down from the agitated leaves
Wind is always blowing on the place I can return to
And in my spirit raised without any color
Flowers are withering in sewed up memories

kodoku ja nai to tsutaeta hajimari
korosareta kotodama tsunagu yubi to hohoemu kagami

The beginning was telling me I wasn’t alone
Words have died, fingers were tied, the mirror was smiling

todoke yo mukau yo

tsudzuku yo sayuu no te ni mirai
afurete hanate yo
mai agaru koe ni mayoi no ito
nageita tsudzuku kunou no sukui
mitsuketa fukai kodoku

Reach for it, face it
Let’s put an end to these days puzzled by an hidden control
Keep on going, the future lies in both your hands
Make it overflow, release it all
The thread of hesitation flutters in your voice
And a salvation from this anguish you keep on grieving about
Is found inside a deep loneliness

moeru kireta hane

My tore apart wings were set on fire

ochite kieta koe

May the disappearing missing voice
Reach for the widening sky

futatsu no rasen
haruka saki de eta kodou no shirushi
shitta sayuu no me ni soushitsu
toki no hate ni
muchi no ame ni utsuru kireta egao
aware da uso ga umu uso
shikou ga namida o tsukuri
kurutta kisoku
kimi wa matsu koto o
shinjite shinku ni somaru

Two spirals
Are the symbol of a pulsation earned in a distant past
Lost inside those eyes I knew;
When times will come to an end
A broken smile will reflect over the ignorant rain
So pitiful, a lie giving birth to lies;
Thinking will create tears,
That’s the maddening set of rules;
Keep on believing on what you’ve been waiting for
As everything is dyed in deep crimson

– Not really sure if 葉 in the first stanza is read as “ha” or “you”. I’ve chosen the second one cause it sounds more like it to me, but could be “ha” too. The meaning doesn’t change anyway.
– In the last stanza, there could be heard a “wo” / “o” (を) after “rasen” (螺旋), but it’s not featured in the booklet’s lyrics, so I’m not adding it.
– An alternate English translation of this song and every other song from the same album by Katsuya Kokubu is featured on the album’s official booklet.

(Atheist’s Cornea 1/8) envy – Blue Moonlight

It’s been a while, lots of things happened and lots of things didn’t happen.
I’ve managed to get my copy of Atheist’s Cornea by envy some weeks ago, so it’s finally time to translate it all, now that I can.
I plan on translating it all, following the songs’ order in the album, can’t tell if I’ll be able to post every song on a daily basis, but I’ll try to get through it as quickly as possible!
So, here’s the first track, Blue Moonlight.
Beware of its jumpscare.

envy – Blue Moonlight

mugen no sora ni utsuru kotonoha
kikoeta oto to kimi ga ayumu sekai
shigeru hana ni kidzuku kisetsu
aoku hirogaru fuzai no tomoshibi kie

Words reflect in the limitless sky
Sounds I’ve heard and the world you’ve walked in
The season I’ve become aware through a blooming flower
Vanishes away in a light of absence growing blue

souwa no kotae asu ni chiru mirai
kare no riron asu ni tsudzuku chinmoku
shisou no koe asu ni mieta yokogao
yuganda tenmei hibiku tsukiyo

All the answers, a future scattering tomorrow
His theory, a silence lasting tomorrow on
The voice of my thoughts, a profile I’ve seen in a tomorrow;
The moonlight echoes a distorted God’s will

arashi no kitaru nagai ame
shinku no ake kure yureru utagoe o tenohira ni

The forthcoming long lasting rain from the storm
Swings the singing voice of crimson dawns and twilights in my palms

kimi ni sasageru hoshizora no kanashisa
chirabaru yoru no mukou ni kimi o tsurete
mienai sekai ni kimi no te o hiki tsurete
sagashita ryoute ni afureta kobore ochiru gunjou no kakera
afureta namida ni kaze hikaru

The sadness of the starry sky I’m offering to you
Will bring you to the far side of the scattering night
I’ll take your hand in this world I can’t see
And ultramarine fragments will spill down from both the hands I’ve found;
The wind will shine all over your overflowing tears

wasurenai yo kyouki no hibi o me o toji mukai
yogoto no muhen ni iro to oto o arayuru subete wa jibun no toi
chijou no hoshi wa futari no kodoku o keshi chikadzuku yami to
akeru yoru o kimi wa sagashi te o nobashi suna o tsukamu

Don’t forget those days of madness; close your eyes and face them
Everything and anything from those infinite nights, each color, each sound is a question;
But the stars above the ground will erase our loneliness,
And the approaching darkness of the newborn night will look for you, outstretching its hands, grasping the sand

– Second stanza: according to the booklet, there’s no “へ” (e) particle after “tenmei” (天命), but can be heard pretty clearly. The transcription is fine.
– Second to last stanza: 断片 (danpen) is read as “kakera”, which is only the second character’s reading when alone. The meaning doesn’t change.
– An alternate English translation of this song and every other song from the same album by Katsuya Kokubu is featured on the album’s official booklet.

If you like Midori, you should definetely check this band out.
They have the same vibe on their song, even if expressed in different ways.
Personally I prefer Midori, mainly because of the vocals / dialect / overall fusion/jazz vibe, but 385’s instrumentals are really incredible.

Lustful crowds full of despair
Are facing this way, it’s becoming devastating
Yet I hold firmly onto this helpless reality,
Without even daring to oppose it myself
Passing through it in a loop of excuses going back and forth

watashi sakete yuke.

Please avoid me.

It has become frightening, and I want to run away from it.
But no matter how big it becomes, I can’t seem to give up yet.
Everything I glorified is gradually being destroyed
It feels like it’s crumbling down into pieces in an instant
I can’t waste not even 10 seconds, and my emotions are going berserk
Even so, I still want to meet the me I haven’t seen yet.

I want to wash up my brainwashed head
No one is averting their eyes, I am
And if we look on our left and right, we, with the same faces,
Are being washed away, foolishly laughing
No matter if we oppose it or cut it away, we’ll be covered in emptiness
Choosing to love the unchanging gloom we’re in
Don’t look back, don’t you dare looking back
Let’s go meet the me I haven’t seen yet

– Last stanza: I think “自分” (“jibun”) is read as “watashi” (私), but can’t really tell because of the way she’s screaming. Anyway, I hear “watashi”, and being that “Jibun” and “Watashi” stands for the same thing, I’m leaving it as “watashi”.
