My Dead Girlfriend – Skyscraper Kills My Ghost In Your Memory

ushiro kara tori tsuite
mizube kara tobi orite

You grappled me from my back
And jumped off with me from waterfront

karamatteru no wa kimi to doukyuusei no wa
karamette nasai
ima kara

Who’s involved with you is a classmate of yours
So just let it be
From now on

yureru karada ukabu shikai
kimi to ano ko no terepashii
itsuka subete ga kieru nara
kimi ni ai ni ikanakucha

A shaking body, a floating corpse
If all of this telepathy between you and that girl
One day will fade away
Then I just have to go meet you

yureru karada ukabu shikai
kimi to ano ko no terepashii
itsuka subete ga kieru kedo
futari dake no himitsu da yo

A shaking body, a floating corpse
If all of this telepathy between you and that girl
One day will fade away
Then this will be our shared secret

Notes:

– Lyrics transcribed by ear by youtube user There’s no 100% guarantee they’re right, but they most likely are.
– The first stanza is repeated throughout the whole song several times. Same goes for the last stanza.
– On 木下芙蓉 there’s a 視界 (shikai, point of view) instead of 死体 (shitai, corpse). I’m guessing is the latter, being that every song by them seems to talk about corpses and it kind of became a trademark for their lyrics. Also, i hear “shitai” over “shikai”. Same goes for “NASA”. It made sense to me, but could also be -nasai, a polite form showing a command. I modified it for this translation on foregroundnoises. Lastly, “wa” in the second stanza is wrote with the kanji for “ring” (輪) in his transcription, I choosed to make it a simple “wa”, marking the subject. An alternate translation following 木下芙蓉’s untouched ear-copied lyrics is available on my second wordpress, kangeki enkai 感激宴会.

Notes:

– Lyrics transcribed by ear by youtube user There’s no 100% guarantee they’re right, but they most likely are.
– Also, the same user provided me the lyrics for this and the previous two posts (Fuyu no Hachiouji & A Swimming Squid in the Swimming Pool) when I asked him to, so I wanted to thank him again for his work and kindness.
For now, the missing lyrics songs I’ve yet to translate from My Dead Girlfriend‘s discography (the ones I’ve not yet translated / posted on foregroundnoises or kangeki enkai), are still nowhere to be found. The song I’m still missing are:
Sumo (from 2 Songs + Cassette Tape EP/ 6 Songs from the Happy Valley)
We Eat In The Subway And Pass Over His Comment In Silence (from Sweet Days And Her Last Kiss)
Skyscraper Kills My Ghost In Your Memory [], Nasty Mayor’s Daughter [], 桜花 (Ouka) [] & Aki no Hachiouji (from Underdrawing For Three Forms Of Unhappiness At The State Of Existence).
Of course I plan to translate them as well, but I’m still missing the lyrics. That at least to this day when I wrote this up. Maybe you’ll be reading this when I’ll have the lyrics for all those songs already translated, who knows!
Still, if you happen to have lyrics for this song, please, send them to me: I’d really appreciate.

We won’t meet again,
We won’t meet once more
But I have to talk

Notes:

– On the first stanza, “kaeru” (蛙, “frog”) may be also refer to the verb “kaeru” (帰る, “to go back home”) as a wordplay.
– I’ve found the lyrics online, and while I’m sure they’re right, they’re not from any booklet, so there’s no 100% guarantee they’re flawless. I haven’t transcribed these lyrics by ear myself.
– The english sections are repeated more than once throughout each stanza they appear in.

Antihoney – Something Left Here

kami-sama koko ni aru no ga mukizu na kokoro nara
itami nado nakushite
tashikana asu ni umareta chippoke na hitori no
ashiato o kakushite

Dear God, if what I hold inside is an unwounded heart
Then make this unreasonable ache disappear
And hide away these frail footprints
Yet to born in loneliness on a certain tomorrow

zutto yume o miteita
shiroi tsubasa ga haeru yume
sora fukaku ochite yuku
itami o nokoshite tooku tooku kie hateru made

I was always having this dream
A dream in which I grew a pair of white wings
And I was falling deep down the sky
Leaving my pain behind, disappearing far, far away until it’s all gone

chitte yuku hada yori kirei na namida o
chigireru kokoro e kirei na namida o

Splendid tears travel down your skin
Flowing down to your shredded heart

kami-sama mou ichido dake kono me o hiraite
subete o miru tame ni
kami-sama kono yuugure ga aisuru mono o mamoremasu you ni

Dear God, please open up your eyes once more
So You could gaze down at everything,
So You could protect all these people in love with this twilight…

tooi yami ni magirete
yasashii hikaze ga koroshite ku
ano moeru yuugumo ga
nagare yuku mae ni todoita nara koerareta nara

Diverted by a distant darkness
Eliminating each trace of the Sun-bearer wind –
If those burning up evening clouds
Could have just reached it before flowing away, if they could have just overcame it…

kie yuku hoshi yori itoshii sekai e
kagayaku hitotsubu no namida no kiseki o
chiri yuku hada yori akarui inochi o
kudakeru kokoro e kirai na namida o

The miracle of a single shining teardrop
Traveling from a disappearing star into our beloved world…
Your radiant mortal life scatters away from your skin
And a splendid tear reaches your broken heart

Notes:

– Much like the previous Antihoney post, Fools in April, I’ve found the lyrics on this twitter account. The difference between this post and the previous one is that I completely agree with these lyrics, so I’m not marking this post as “ear copy” (though the lyrics aren’t 100% official) just because I’m not the one who transcribed them.

My Dead Girlfriend – Kinoshita Fuyou

[27/08/2017 POST UPDATE]
I have an important news for this song’s lyrics. I previously made two ear-copy versions of it, but after I came in contact via mail with My Dead Girlfriend’s vocalist Ishikawa, he kindly read my ear-copy and mailed me the actual lyrics of it.
Most of the words were correct, but there are some parts I completely mistook (naiteiru yo -> daijoyuu / boku wa dere egao -> boku datte egao / barabarashita -> barabara shitai).
Not much changed and the translation itself didn’t suffer that much of a change in terms of meaning, but I’m really glad they decided to fix this post for me, it shows they’re willing to support translations and worldwide spreading of their music, and I really, really appreciate that.
So I’d like to thank the band and Ishikawa himself for his kindness and support, I’ll always support them and their works!
PS: the video still features the old (and wrong-transcribed) lyrics, but I’ll make a note about them on its description / notes.
PPS: he also sent me some more lyrics..!

My Dead Girlfriend – Kinoshita Fuyou

daijoyuu Kinoshita Fuyou
kimi ga mune ni sashita toge ga
nukenaide shibireteiru
zutto kono mama de itakatta

You’re a great actress, Kinoshita Fuyou
You won’t take off the thorn piercing your heart,
It has paralyzed you
And you just want to stay this way forever

daijoyuu Kinoshita Fuyou
kimi ga mune ni sashita toge ga
sukoshi zutsu usurete yuku
yuka ni ochiru kimi no migite

You’re a great actress, Kinoshita Fuyou
The thorn piercing your heart
Is gradually becoming dimmer and dimmer
As your right hand falls down on the floor

sutekina kanchigai datte
kimi wa waratteiru
sutekina kanchigai dakara
boku datte egao

What a lovely misunderstanding,
It got you smiling!
And because of such lovely misunderstanding
I’m smiling too

sutekina kanchigai datte
kimi wa waratteiru
sutekina kanchigai dakara
boku datte egao

What a lovely misunderstanding,
It got you smiling!
And because of such lovely misunderstanding
I’m smiling too

sutekina kanchigai datte
kimi wa waratte itta
sutekina kanchigai
soshite kimi no barabara shitai

“What a lovely misunderstanding”
– You said, smiling
A lovely misunderstanding
And then, your corpse in pieces

Notes:

– First of all, just as I did for Sweet Days and Her Last Kiss, this aren’t the official lyrics for this song, I haven’t copied them online (which is something I never do, by the way) or transcribed from a booklet. I simply wrote down what I could hear. It took me a lot of time and lots of different videos (original song, lives, karaokes…) to figure out each stanza’s most accurate meaning. While I’m not 100% sure about anything, I think the outcome is pretty good. If I’ll find some erorrs (or if you will), I’ll just fix this post like I did for the other one.
– First note is about the very first word, “泣いている”, which is probably the world I’m the most unsure about. No matter the version of this song I’ve listened to, it was always so difficult to grasp its meaning. A tweet from this user made my mind a bit clearer, even if he/she too is not really sure about it(聴き取れない = “I can’t understand very well”). That’s of course because of the soft, background-blending vocals which aren’t clear enough.

– Now, about “Kinoshita Fuyou”. I think the whole song plays a pun over the word “Fuyou” which could also mean “unnecessary”, “unneeded”, but that’s probably a pun that Edogawa Ranpo thought himself. Kinoshita Fuyou is, in fact, a character appearing in the short novel “Mushi” by Edogara Ranpo. While I couldn’t read the novel, I managed to find some notes about it on Wikipedia. Kinoshita Fuyou is one of the main three characters of this short novel, as well as the victim, killed out of jealousy by a childhood friend whose true feelings for her (already in love with another man) got refused with a harsh laugh of her. He was still in love with her, and tried to move her corpse away to keep it clean and beautiful, but things didn’t go as well as planned, so the corpse starts rotting… That’s the summary of the summary of the summary.
– Giving that, most of the sentences from this song seems to be more from the killer than the victim, if the song itself is based off this novel. Or probably, “Kinoshita Fuyou” serves as a reference, while the rest of the song is just unrelated to anything else concerning the song. You can check an alternate translation on my second wordpress, 感激宴会 ~ Kangeki Enkai.
– Third/Fourth stanza, “dere-egao” is another doubt. It may be just “dere-gao”, which has the same meaning, or something else I couldn’t grasp. I’m pretty sure about either “dere-egao” or “dere-gao”, though.
– Last stanza, “barabara” means “to scatter”, but could also mean “to tore something into pieces”. I could clearly hear “to” in the live version, so I kept that, but it could also be “wo”. If that’s the case, than it’s probably more correct to say “cut into pieces” rather than “to scatter” / “to part away from”.

The air inside the bus starts flowing as I open its shutted window
The azure color sticks to my brain passing through my ears
Without any control, my daydreams sink down the abyss
Past time – before I realized it, the end became the starting point

Destroy the annual fading-away street towards the school –
I stop my breath inside the delayed bus I’m in
Running away from it with a blue sound howling in my brain
I was just waiting for it to come, to sway me away and disturb my thoughts

The scent of your hair tied up to the wind

Aware of them so I won’t forget – remembering them so they won’t change

Even if you’d be worried or full of regrets
The sky will always stay blue, blue, blue, blue

And a blueness sticks to my brain passing through my ears

Notes:

– The title for this song seems to refer to a japanese pop-punk band called Number Girls, dismantled in 2002. (Source)
– The first three stanzas of the song have some complex words / weird sentences in them, so I’m not really sure about their translation. Expecially the “sun – teshita” on the third stanza. I added the implied word “scent” and avoided used the word “nose” (鼻) to make the translation sound better.

Antihoney – Fools In April

ikanaide kanashimi koko ni yubi de fureteite
ikanaide… hey…

Don’t go – sadness is right there, I’m feeling it with my fingers
Just don’t go… hey…

nobashikaketa koe o kiro ito o kiru
kotoba dake ni obiete wa seijitsu naku
sora o muite yasashii te no uso o tsuku
kuse ga ima mo itsu made mo kawaranai

I cut off my voice left hanging, all my wires
Because there’s no faithfulness in being scared off just by words;
Facing the sky I make up a lie over your gentle hand
You know, habits won’t change no matter how much time passes

damatte wakaranai mama de
hitori dake otona ni naru no ne
hanaranai yume ga oto gurai
majiwaru koto dake ga kanawanai

But I’m sure you’ll become an adult
By staying silent as you are, without understanding any of this;
The dream that won’t part away from here is like a noise
I can’t just seem to make it one with me

ikanaide sonna wagamama ni iki o shinaide
ikanaide… hey…

Don’t go, don’t make such selfish sighs
Just don’t go… hey…

shiroku natta tsume no ato batsu no ato
koko ni irareru wake ga naku tte furueteita
onaji machi de yume o mita baka o mita
ano hi hoho ni nagareta yozora o niramu

Traces of my whitened nails, traces of punishment
Trembling over the fact I have no reason to be here;
I was looking at all these fools dreaming in the same city
Glaring at the night sky flowing over your cheeks on that day

kireina mono o oshiete
sekirara na namida ga utsukushii
kowashitai setsuna o kaetai
yakusoku wa minna yabureta ne

Teach me something beautiful,
Your honest flowing tears are so pretty –
I want to change this longing for destruction of each moment
But you know, I’ve always broke every vow I made

ikanaide kuzure yuku kata aru mono hanarete
nakanaide, hey… ano tsuki no kakete koroshite

Don’t go, don’t be the crumbling figure parting away from here
Don’t cry, hey… let’s just kill down that fragment of Moon

hakanai mono o yurushite
afuredashita chi ga atatakai
sayonara no uta kokoenai
ushinau koto dake ni narenai

Forgive what’s momentary
Your overflowing blood is so warm
I can’t hear your farewell song
Because the only thing I can’t get used to is to lose something

ikanaide sonna wagamama ni iki o shinaide
ikanaide hey… gomen ne, datte…
ikanaide kanashimi koko ni yubi de fureteite
ikanaide hey… konna wagamama de iki o tomete
ikanaide fureteite
kienaide…

Don’t go, don’t make such selfish sighs
Don’t go, hey… I’m sorry, because…
Don’t go – sadness is right there, I’m feeling it with my fingers
Don’t go, hey… just stop this selfish breathing
Don’t go – I’m feeling it –
Don’t disappear…

Notes:

– I found these lyrics by ear on this tweet as a base for my transcription. The author states he / she’s not sure, plus he / she has left lots of blank space where he / she couldn’t understand what the song says. My transcription ISN’T a complete copied version of this, you can easily compare them to verify this (example: I think it says “kanashimi” over “kanashii” on the first stanza). I heard different things from what the user did, but I suggest you to read his / her transcription too. Also, I’ve filled every blank space he / she left, though I’m not sure about anything. Don’t take this transcription for granted. It took me a month, though, so I’m willing to share my interpretation / transcription with you! Hoping you’ll enjoy this song as much as I do.
Also, if you have any suggestion about lyrics / transcription or you hear something else over what I’ve wrote down, let me know in the comments!
– “Kill down the Moon” is of course not the official transcription / translation, but I think that made sense because of the title of another album by them “As we Kill the Night“.
