Eternal Excaliver – Devotion to Black

Devotion to Black
Prey for death gate
Tear off your chain of heart
Im dying in black that I wanted for
Killing insanity with breaking my brain
All covered blood to take back
the proud of victory

Road to death
There is no reason to live
The world filled with despair

We will fall into darkness
Walking in chaotic storm
Show your road to escape
Devotion to black

幾千の時を経て目覚めた
The world is covered with death chain
魂が浄化されゆく
愛を 自由を
無様に残された
Road to death
あの時の約束さえも
Devotion to black
魂の懺悔
Road to death
愛も 自由も
Devotion to black

ikusen no toki o hete mezameta
The world is covered with death chain
tamashii ga jouka sare yuku
ai o juyuu o
buzama ni nokosareta
Road to death
ano toki no yakusoku sae mo
Devotion to black
tamashii no zange
Road to death
ai mo jiyuu mo
Devotion to black

Waking up after the elapse of millennia
The world is covered with death chain
My soul seems to grow purified
And love and freedom
Are unsightly left behind
Road to death
Even the promise from that day
Devotion to black
The repentance of my soul
Road to death
Even love, even freedon
Devotion to black

幾千もの刀を宿し
宿命という名の下に特攻する
永遠の生を手に入れ
暴虐と化した世界に身を捧げる

ikusen mo no katana o yadoshi
shukumei to iu na no moto ni tokkou suru
eien no sei o te ni ire
bougyaku to kashita sekai ni mi o sasageru

Carrying countless swords
Leading the army under the name of fate itself
Getting our hands on eternal life
Offering our bodies to a world reduced to tyranny

We revived
Devotion to black

Prey for death gate
Tear off your chain of heart
Im dying in black that I wanted for

We will fall into darkness
Walk in the storm

Notes:

– This song is mostly in engRish, I guarantee I made no mistakes in transcribing it. They were already there to begin with. The only thing I’ve changed is the first “Devotion to Black” appearing in the fifth stanza, which appears as a typo, “Devoion to black”, in the official booklet.
– The first and fifth stanza are repeated again after the last stanza.

ZERO SOUNDS – 薄夢想

ZERO SOUNDS – 薄夢想

繰り返してく波間に どこかで響きあう声 なぜ
宵の白露遠くに 淡くゆさ食い掠めた

kurikaeshiteku namima ni doko ka de hibiki au koe naze
yoi no shiratsuyu tooku ni awaku yusagui kasumeta

Somewhere between the repeating breaking waves, voices are resounding together – but why?
The evening glistening dew faintly swept over the flag it covered

綺麗なドレス綺麗な靴に綺麗な私でいたいと願う
ありがちな夢は梅雨と捨てた いざ海原へと

kireina doresu kireina kutsu ni kireina watashi de itai to negau
arigachi na yume wa tsuyu to suteta iza unabara e to

And I pray to be there, beautiful, wearing a gorgeous dress and pretty shoes
But this dream I was used to have was thrown away by the rainy season into the ocean

キミと描きキミと歩みキミと仰いだ理想には
何もかもが及ばない 私を作り上げし花
キミと描きキミと歩みキミと寄り添う薄夢想
息をするようにほら 私をそっと包んで

kimi to egaki kimi to ayumi kimi to aoida risou ni wa
nanimo kamo ga oyobanai watashi o tsukuri ageshi hana
kimi to egaki kimi to ayumi kimi to yorisou hakumusou
iki o suru you ni hora watashi o sotto tsutsunde

What I’ve drawn with you, the steps I’ve took with you, the ideals we both looked up to
Nothing of that will ever reach us, they’re just a fabricated flower I made
What I’ve draw with you, the steps I’ve took with you, and this faint reverie of getting closer…
They’re gently wrapping me up, feeling like a breath

綺麗なドレス綺麗な靴に綺麗な私でいたいと願う
ちっぽけな夢を泡にしてキミのためにできることがあるの

kireina doresu kireina kutsu ni kireina watashi de itai to negau
chippoke na yume wo awa ni shite kimi no tame ni dekiru koto ga aru no

And I pray to be there, beautiful, wearing a gorgeous dress and pretty shoes…
I’ve turned such fleeble dream into foam – is there really something I could do for your sake?

キミと描きキミと歩みキミと仰いだ理想には
何もかもが及ばない 私を作り上げし花
キミを描きキミヘ歩みキミに寄り添う薄夢想
息をするようにほら 私をそっと包み
私にそっと触れて キミを想う漣へ

kimi to egaki kimi to ayumi kimi to aoida risou ni wa
nanimokamo ga oyobanai watashi o tsukuri ageshi hana
kimi o egaki kimi e ayumi kimi ni yorisou hakumusou
iki o suru you ni hora watashi o sotto tsutsumi
watashi ni sotto furete kimi o omou sazanami e

What I’ve drawn with you, the steps I’ve took with you, the ideals we both looked up to
Nothing of that will ever reach us, they’re just a fabricated flower I made
What I’ve draw with you, the steps I’ve took with you, and this faint reverie of getting closer…
They’re gently embracing me, feeling like a breath
And as I lay a finger over them, ripples of your memories spread

Notes:

– The lyrics aren’t took from a booklet / scans. I’ve found them online, so there’s a chance they’re not 100% correct. The vocals are clean and clear enough to help me believe the lyrics are right, though.
– “yusagui” on the first stanza was one of the greatest translation issues. I’ve found that “yusa” could be used to refer to large swaying things, so I thought it may implied a flag, giving we’re talking about warships. Thus, that’s how I’ve decided to translate it a long and not-so-satisfying weblio / dictionary research. “gui” is probably attached to “kasumu” after it, and while it usually stands for “to eat”, it could also mean “to be attached”. It made sense with my “flag” interpretation, so I don’t think that’s the main problem here.
– On the second to last stanza, right after “yume”, I don’t know if it’s whether “yo” or “wo” (/”o”). The meaning won’t change, but the “yo” would have made the sentence a bit more pompous sounding.

C-CLAYS – 黒煙の流るる祭唄

nagato

Oh look, a Kancolle post.
I actually planned to release this way sooner than today, but stuff happened and so here I am.
This song is really funky and I like the matsuri-feel it carries along.
It’s also an arrange of one of the greatest kancolle’s themes, so of course I would like it.
Lastly, it’s a C-CLAYS‘ production, and that can’t mean anything but good news.
Come to think about it, that’s not the first song I’ve translated from this album, isn’t it…?

C-CLAYS – 黒煙の流るる祭唄

砲撃の 祭囃子だ 遠慮無用だ

hougeki no matsuribayashi da enryo muyou da

This is the traditional orchestral festival of bombings, it’s useless to resist it!

ドンパチ 的中で雲煙 さあ行かん

donpachi tekichuu de kumo-kemuri saa ikan

Gunfires are generating a cloud of smoke, it’s time to go!

夏の大空 背に やらねばならぬ使命
敵が待つのならば 「全主砲 斉射!撃て!」

natsu no oozora se ni yaraneba naranu shimei
teki ga matsu no naraba “zen-shuhou seisha! ute!”

My order is to go before the great summer sky
If the enemies are waiting for us: “Open fire with every weapon!”

異名を持つ所以 譲ることはできぬ
敵がそこにいれば 是が誇り

imei o motsu yuen yuzuru koto wa dekinu
teki ga soko ni ireba kore ga hokori

Giving up on the name I’m carrying i something I can’t do
Because if the enemies are over there, that’ll be my pride

蹴散らしてやろうか 恐れるものなどない
敵は鬼か姫か 「全主砲 斉射!撃て!」

kechirashite yarou ka osoreru mono nado nai
teki wa oni ka hime ka “senshuhou seisha! ute!”

There’s no thing we could fear, so let’s just break through them
No matter if the enemy is a demon or a princess, “Open fire with every weapon!”

我が名をしらしめせ 是が誇り

wa ga na o shirashimese kore ga hokori

I’ll make my name known by anyone, that’s my pride!

連撃の 神輿を担げ 闇を焦がせ

rengeki no mikoshi o katsuge yami o kogase

I’ll carry this palanquin of countless wounds and make the darkness burn up!

ディンドンドン ざわめいて水飛沫 さあ行かん

dindondon zawameite mizu shibuki saa ikan

The splashes of water are stirring loudly, it’s time to go!

蒼い月影 背に 忘れられぬ戦い
挑み続けるのさ 「全主砲 斉射!撃て!」

aoi tsukikage se ni wasurerarenu tatakai
idomi tsudzukeru no sa “zen-shuhou seisha! ute!”

The azure moonlight carries each unforgettable fight,
We have to keep our battle on! “Open fire with every weapon!”

旗艦に命じられ 護るただそれだけ
貴方のためにだけ 是が誇り

kikan ni meijirare mamoru tada sore dake
anata no tame ni dake kore ga hokori

The only thing the flagship is ordering me is to protect you;
This pride of mine is just for your sake

蹴散らしてやろうか 恐れるものなどない
敵は鬼か姫か 「全主砲 斉射!撃て!」

kechirashite yarou ka osoreru mono nado nai
teki wa oni ka hime ka “zen-shuhou seisha! ute!”

There’s no thing I could fear, so I’ll just break through them
No matter if the enemy is a demon or a princess, “Open fire with every weapon!”

伝説を纏うさ 是が誇り

densetsu o matou sa kore ga hokori

I’ll wrap myself in a legend, that’s my pride

夜明けを待たずして 静かの奥深く
もういいか? 貴方のことだけを抱いて

yoake o matazu shite shizuka no okufukaku
mou ii ka? anata no koto dake o idaite

On the calm depths, without waiting for dawn to come…
Is it okay by now? I just want to hold you…

命尽きようとも やらねばならぬ使命
敵が待つ限りは 「全主砲 斉射!撃て!」

inochi tsukiyou to mo yaraneba naranu shimei
teki ga matsu kagiri wa “zen-shuhou seisha! ute!”

Even if my life will run out, there’s an order I have to follow
If the enemies are waiting for me: “Open fire with every weapon!”

旗艦に命じられ 護るただそれだけ
貴方のためにだけ 是が誇り

kikan ni meijirare mamoru tada sore dake
anata no tame ni dake kore ga hokori

The only thing the flagship is ordering me is to protect you;
This pride of mine is just for your sake

蹴散らしてやろうか 恐れるものなどない
敵は鬼か姫か 「全主砲 斉射!撃て!」

kechirashite yarou ka osoreru mono nado nai
teki wa oni ka hime ka “zen-shuhou seisha! ute!”

There’s no thing I could fear, so I’ll just break through them
No matter if the enemy is a demon or a princess, “Open fire with every weapon!”

最強を謳うのさ 是が誇り

saikyou o utau no sa kore ga hokori

That’s the strongest hymn I’ll chant, that’s my pride!

Notes:

– First stanza sounds reeeally weird. hougeki = bombing, matsuri = traditional japanese festival, hayashi = traditional japanese orchestra. So the translation may look really weird, but it’s actually true.
– Expect lots of kancolle/ships-related terms on this song.
– For example, “princess” or “demon” refer to two classes of enemies in the game, “hime” and “oni”. I think that’s the only part that needs an explaination.
– As you may notice, in order to make this song more clear on certain points, I’ve added some words that are omitted in the japanese sentences. Last stanza is the best example.

Empire Ensemble – Supersonic Cinderella

zekamashi

You thought Kancolle disappeared from this wordpress, didn’t you?
Well, it didn’t. And I guarantee you there are going to be more kancolle posts now and then.
I’ve already translated songs from this album, and I think I’ll keep doing so because it was my very first kancolle album and I’m kinda attached to it.
Even though I think it’s impossible to place Touhou project and Kancolle on the same ground (in every term, expecially music), I still think that Kancolle deserves some space in this wordpress.
But let’s skip that and go straight to the song.
Of course this song revolves around Shimakaze, so you can guess the meaning of the lyrics.
Its style is very fast-paced and seems to be something you’ll most likely find inside a Dance Dance Revolution machine.
Eurobeat, wasn’t it?
Anyway. For the best experience out of this song, I suggest you to listen to it while looking at this animated gif.
There aren’t really lots of things to say about it, it’s a pretty nice song with a crazy fast rhythm that couldn’t have been better suited for Shimakaze.
Then it slows down… but who cares? It’s fine.
>Congratulations.

Because that’s who I am

Notes:

– This song is based off Shimakaze, so speed and stuff. Correct me if I’m wrong, I remember her sleeping somewhere on the roof in the anime. Or was it Strike Witches? Anyway, that’s probably what the second stanza stands for.
– 道 is always a problem when it comes to translation. It could mean “way”/”Street” even in a philosophical way, so it’s easy translated as “Journey”. I prefered using this translation, but keep on mind that it could mean a lot of things.

[REQUEST] C-CLAYS – 風ニ舞シ恋桜歌

dw

【Requested by Dolce

And I can remember who gave me the lyrics for it, so thanks, guyIdontremember!
Kancolle. I do enjoy its art, some of its BGMs and the characters’ design, but that apart, it doesn’t make sense to me.
I don’t really like it that much, and whoever says that kancolle is the next touhou is clearly blind or whatever.
That apart, Kancolle arranges are pretty damn good.
There are a lot of arranges that I like and I wish to translate, so I’m not giving up translating Kancolle stuff.
I just wanted to point out that, music aside, I don’t like it that much as I like touhou.
I never accepted that all of those cute anime girls were actually ships, and while on Touhou there are things such as humanized musical instrument / umbrellas / stuff, it doesn’t look strange not even a bit to me, compared to how kancolle does.
Anyway, some words about this post.
I already translated 番ヒノ翼 from the same album, and just like this one, the lyrics aren’t easy at all.
Katakana everywhere, special readings and strange kanjis make everything a lot more difficult than it already is.
But then again, I DO like challenges.
Also, this is an arrange from that theme… can’t remember the name. The one featured in the spring event some years ago, maybe? I like that theme a lot!
PS: In this song… The bass is AMAZING. Just wait for the fourth stanza and bshqeyrbsznjdjs.
PPS: This may be my worst (aka most difficult / wtf) translation EVER.
Be sure to check the notes.

What dawn, darkness, dreams and reality see
Going beyond the silver time, is a faded beauty;
What the shadow of the chance of meeting you is sprinkling
Is the rain of an ephemeral sad flower.

A Kagura song burns my overflowing life with love
Like a pattern from a love melody I used to hear;
What’s left in this transient fate of my heart falling like a flower is just this song,
Bloom fully, oh fragrant spring wind!

The scattering lamps are lightened up by the raging fire of love
And the Miotsukushi are fighting for your sake;
I pray to the azure sky for those wings I dreamed of,
As I follow the path that white clouds are showing me

銀朱ノ空際爛然咲キ初メテ

This destiny, a guidepost of steel, is bursting up my chest;
My heart is dancing to a rhythm of a love song
That blows strongly from the heavens;
The iron, the violence, The cry of crickets…
A sad, golden wind is rising…

小サナ勇気八重咲ク恋イ初メテ

I’ll let those feelings for you ride the wind carrying love, a loving sakura blooming in profusion even when is cold…
This heart, falling like a flower, aah… the colour of a transient maiden is a song;
Bloom fully, grow splendid, oh fragrant spring wind, oh song of a loving sakura!

Notes:

– 恋登り (koinobori) is a strange word. It implies the word “koi” (love) and “nobori” (to ride, to go up, to rise), but on the other hand, it sounds exactly like 鯉幟 (koinobori), the name of those carp-shaped wind chimes which are made float during the kodomo-no-hi (children’s day). I kept the other meaning, but it may have some implications with this tradition. I guess.
– 恋桜 (koizakura) this word appears both in the title and often in the song. I don’t really know how should I translate it, being “koi” “love” and “zakura” a compound form of “sakura”, the japanese cherry tree. I decided to make it into “loving sakura” or “lovely sakura”. “loving” was a bit more fitting, so I left this one in the translation.
– “silver time” in the translation is a literal translation of 銀の時. I can’t think of anything else. It could may be refering to the war, which makes a lot of sense giving the context.
– 刹那 (setsuna) means “moment”, but also “sadness”. Here, it’s written with the kanjis for “moment”, but I think it fits better to add both, being the stanza about chance of meeting and hope (which are both sad imho).
– Katakana appears randomly in some sentences. On the booklet, the furigana was entirely in katakana. The reason for this is unknown.
– 神楽歌 (kagura uta) the Kagura is a shinto / traditional type of song in japanese culture. I left it untouched.
– 生命 (inochi) in the third stanza is read as “inochi”, which is the normal reading ONLY for 命, the second kanji, while it should be read “seimei”. The meaning of “life”, however, stays the same.
– 旋律 (senritsu) in the third stanza, same thing. Should be read “senritsu” but is read as “merodi” (katakana version of the word “melody”). Both words mean the same thing, once again.
– こゝろ (kokoro) in the third stanza, is written using ゝ, an old fashioned symbol which is read as the previous kana. Nowadays, japanese people don’t use it.
– 澪標 (miotsukushi) I can’t explain in english what are those. Just… look here on Google images. Too many goodamn naval-themed words I can’t translate / comprehend. I’m sorry.
– 運命 (unmei) third stanza too. Somebody, please, tell me why this fucking compound is ALWAYS read as “sadame” (not the original reading) but NEVER as “unmei” (original reading). I can’t understand this. Help me. In this song is read as “sadame” too, and I swear it appears as “sadame” in at least other 5 posts I already made. Just why..?
– 宿命 (shukumei) fifth stanza (or sixth?), ditto. Should be read “shukumei”, but japanese guys likes that fucking “sadame” word more than they love fucking sushi. I’m sorry that was racist. I love you, japanese people.

[REQUEST] 金剛・比叡・榛名・霧島 【東山奈央】- 提督との絆

haruna

【Requested by Daniel Blueflyer‏

Back to Kancolle with a song published by Kadokawa Games, “提督との絆“.
While with Touhou there’s no way I can say uncorrect things, this could happen when I’m talking about Kancolle because I don’t know eveyrthing about it.
So, feel free to insult correct me!
Anyway, this seems to be an arrange from the theme of marriage in Kancolle.
Yup, in the game you can actually marry your favourite ship.
How should we call this? Mechaphilia? I don’t know. What I know is that this song is so sweet it melted my insides and gave me diabetes three times.
And that’s not a bad thing, I like these kind of lyrics and this one is very good. What I like about Kancolle arranges is that they’re always very emotional (in terms of lyrics) compared to your average Touhou arrange.
Must probably be because Kancolle is overall sadder when compared to Touhou, that explains why its arranges are almost tearjerking.
And, I repeat, it’s not like that’s a bad thing. I liked this song a lot.
But that’s not all. The vocals are by Nao Touyama, which is the voice actress for every Kongou class ship in the game. So, as stated in the title, the characters performing this song are Kongou (金剛), Haruna (榛名), Hiei (比叡) and Kirishima (霧島).
There’s nothing much I can add to this, I’ll just leave the notes and the lyrics. Enjoy!
(PS: I choose a picture of Haruna merely because it was the best I could find)
(…And yup, that’s a traditional japanese wedding dress)

Nao Touyama – 提督との絆

海の底に眠る

目覚めた朝の光の中
提督の夢を見る

umi no soko ni nemuru
fukai kanashimi to toki no kioku kara

From the profound sadness and our memories
Sleeping at the bottom of the sea,
Inside the light of a morning that wakes me up
I dream about you, Admiral.

提督がくれた未来の航路

In the calm sea of tomorrow,
I’ll check with care the precious
Map of our future that you, Admiral gave to me,
As you watch my back.

闇を切り裂く戦いも
独りになったさみしささえ
越えてゆけるから

I’ll overcome everything…
Even the iron sinking in the strait,
Even the darkness, even the violent battles,
Even the sadness of having become alone…

Notes:

– That’s one of the few song I translated without leaving the sentence order the same way as the japanese lyrics are for most of the stanzas. This was in order to have the lyrics be more “normal sounding”.
– In the lyrics, everytime the word 提督 (teitoku), meaning “admiral”, appears, it’s ALWAYS read as “anata”, which could both mean “you” and “my dear”. Even the title of this song has a “Teitoku” that’s actually read as “Anata”. I translated it as “You, Admiral”, so it has every meaning it should have.
– 航路 is read as “chizu” in this song, meaning “map”, while it’s normally read as “kouro”, meaning “route” (as the route a warship is ordered to follow).
– 希望 is read as “ashita”, meaning “tomorrow”, while it’s normally read as “kibou”, meaning “hope”. I combined the two meanings.
– 時代 is read as “toki”, meaning “time”, while it’s normally read as “jidai”, meaning “era”. Omg I just made three identical notes in a row.
– Just like note #2, on another stanza the word 未来 which is read as “mirai” meaning “future”, is read as “ashita”, meaning “tomorrow”. Japanese is fun.
– When the song says “aoi toki” and “akai toki” (blue times – red times) I think it’s probably refering to “good memories” and “violent memories”. In other words, the days of calmness (blue) and the days of battles and blood (red). We’re talking about warship, after all.
– When it says “dress”, it’s probably also refering to the marriage stuff. That’s an arrange from that theme, after all.
– Last two stanzas come one after one other in meanings, so the translation for “forever” is actually in the second-to-last stanza instead of the last. As I stated on a previous note, I had to change the order of some words, but I assure you I didn’t left behind anything.

[REQUEST] Zero Sound – Lost

sunk

【Requested by Andersen Lim

Looks like I’m getting tons of Kancolle requests. And that’s nice too, even though I’m mainly a terminal touhoulic.
Today’s song is Lost, from the same album of Blue Rise!, a previous kancolle-request post.
This is actually an arrange from one of my favourite Kancolle’s themes, and I really like it.
I should thank Violet and her friedworld for having it already romanized, or else it could have take me lots of time (I never stopped fighting against katakana)!

Zero Sound – Lost

何の為、誰の為に生まれて
生きてゆくのかなんて
誰が教えてくれるの?
誰か教えて…

nan no tame, dare no tame ni umarete
ikite yuku no ka nante
dare ga oshiete kureru no?
dareka oshiete…

For what reason, for whose sake was I born?
And the reason of my existence…
Who could tell me what is it?
Someone, tell me…

夜の帳が下り 静寂が包んで
漂い堕ちてゆく 海の底へ

yoru no tobari ga ori seijaku ga tsutsunde
tadayoi ochite yuku umi no soko e

The night’s curtain lowers, wrapping in silence
The bottom of the sea where I float as I fall…

大破れてく艦艇は やがて軋み崩れ
忘れ去られてゆく末路なのね

kowareteku karada wa yagate kishimi kuzure
wasuresararete yuku matsuro na no ne

My breaking body is soon going to collapse in creaks;
Looks like my destiny is going to be being left behind…

二度と還る事も逢う事も出来ないの

nido to kaeru koto mo au koto mo dekinai no

…Without being able to come back home or meet you again one more time…

沈む意識の中 最後まで残ってた
あの感情の名は 何と謂ふのかしら?

生まれた意味 生きてゆく哀しみ
分かち合える慶び 全て手放し

ano kanjou no na wa nan to iu no kashira?
dareka oshiete…
umareta imi ikite yuku kanashimi

I wonder what was the name of that feeling that was left
Until the very end inside my sinking consciousness?
Someone, tell me…
The meaning of my birth, the suffering of leading a life,
The happiness we shared… everything slips away from my grasp;
I’m disappearing, am I?

轟沈れてく艦艇は もはや崩れ朽ちて
世界も見放して消失するの

kowareteku karada wa mohaya kuzure ochite

My broken body is already sinking down
I’m disappearing, abandoning the world…

遠く聴こえるのは壊かしい波の音

What I can hear from far away is the nostalgic sound of waves…

I wonder what was the name of that feeling that was left
Until the very end inside my straining consciousness?
Someone, tell me…
All the hard work rotting away, the weight of my soul parted from rightousness…
Who should go after the weight of a sin one has to commit?

In the midst of my fading consciousness
I’m strongly tying myself up to this world:
I felt like I saw the chains of my regrets…

Aah, the reason of my birth, the grief of living,
The happiness we shared, everything slips away from my grasp;
I’m disappearing, am I?

dare no tame ni kuchite yuku no
nee oshiete

Just for what sake was I born?
What was truthful in my life?
For whose sake am I rusting away?
Please… Tell me…

Notes:

– 大破れてく (kowareteku) is wrote in a different way, where the kanji of big (大) is used. It implies that the ship took a massive damage.
– 艦艇 (kantei) which means “war ship” is read as “karada”, meaning “body”, in the same sentence of the previous note. This is also repeated onwards.
– 謂ふ (iu) is the exactly same thing as the modern 言う, the main difference is that it uses a different kanji and archaic kana (fu), which was read as “u” back on the classic japanese days. Kancolle arranges = classical japanese / difficult language, for some reason.
– 轟沈 (gouchin) same thing as before. It says “kowareteku”, but it’s written as “gouchin”, meaning “instantly sunk”. I originally wanted to add a picture of Taihou because of this, but couldn’t find one I liked, so… you know, I really like Hibiki.
– I also used a lot of “rotting away” instead of “rusting away”. The way they’re wrote should be more “rot” than “rust”, but keep in mind that you could read any “rot” as “rust”. It’s a metaphor! (<-*trying to justify his mistakes*)
– 消失する (rosutosuru) is actually read as "shoushitsusuru", meaning "to disappear". Maybe the rosuto is the world "lost" in english..? However, I choose to keep its original kanjis meaning.
– 価値 is read as "omosa" (weight) instead of "kachi" (value). I kept "weight". Also, I'd like to explain this sentence. In the point of sinking (aka dying), the ship is thinking about her status as a warship, thus "parting away from what's right/justice", being a machine born for the sole sake of killing.
– 未練 (miren) which means "regret" is read as 鎖 (kusari), meaning "chains". I combined their meanings in my translation.
– The song's lyrics slowly fades into katakana because they symbolize how the sunken ship is becoming an abyssal, the enemy specie which speaks in katakana in Kancolle.

[REQUEST] C-CLAYS – 番ヒノ翼

tubasa

【Requested by Dolce

Another Kantai Collection song, this time by C-Clays, a circle that I get to know thanks to Touhou arranges.
I like the japanese-style and the overall rhythm of this song, it’s really nice.
But on the other hand, this song was hard as hell. Even trying to understand single words made me do several researches!
Well, it’s not like I hate getting to know more about japanese!
But I must say, if there weren’t lyrics for this song, I couldn’t have figure out a single word out of it.
Not only that. This song is overly complex. It took me hours to figure out some sentences meaning! That’s because it has a lot of military-only words and other words that are not so easy to find on a common japanese text.
It’s probably the hardest song I’ve translated, and the first one in which I’m not completely sure how it turned out to be…
But again, it’s due complex words and archaic idioms unused nowadays.
As I also state on the notes, this song seems to be talking about two characters from Kancolle: Kaga & Akagi. Read the notes for more info about the song / lyrics!

Everyone will be crying;
In the same era where that person survives…
…We are our pair of wings!

Notes:

-ゝ appears really often in this song. It’s a symbol that works just like 々. While the second one repeats the sound of the kanji before it, ゝ repeats the sound of the kana before it. So あゝ is the exact same thing as ああ (aa, in kanji 嗚呼).
– 日の丸 (hinomaru or hi no maru) is the name of japanese’s flag. Literaly “The circle of Sun”. Also, can’t find the link between the first two lines.
– 浮世絵 (ukiyoe) I could leave it as “painting”, but let me explain. Ukiyo-e are a series of japanese traditional painting, whose name mean “floating world painting”. Ever seen the Great Wave off Kanagawa by Hokusai? That’s an ukiyo-e. I left the term “ukiyo-e” to leave untouched that overall japanese-feeling the song carries with it.
– 赤城 is read as “hito”, meaning “person” in this song. While the kanji (“red” and “castle”) together are read as “Akagi”, one of Kancolle’s character & of course a real existed japanese aircraft carrier. Sticking to Kancolle’s world, implying that “akagi” is read as “person” (and giving the context of the sentence), it’s pretty easy to state that the song is from Kaga’s point of view. That explains the picture I choose for this post. I left it as “person”, anyway.
– 番ヒノ翼 (tsugahi no tsubasa) This too, is written as “tsugaHI”, but it’s read as “tsugai”. That’s because in ancient japanese it worked like that.
– 赤き群青 (akaki gunjou) “a reddish ultramarine blue”. The sentence clearly states “a red ultramarine”, which is something impossible. However, this is most likely refering to Akagi’s red outfit (also, “aka” from “Akagi” means red) and Kaga’s deep blue outfit.
– 鼻緒 (hanao) means “geta strap” (a geta is a japanese traditional sandal). There’s no doubt, it has no other meanings. Probably it’s a reference to some Akagi-Kaga related stuff I don’t know about (I’m not a Kancolle expert like Touhou). Or probably some historical events. There’s no doubt, anyway, that “hanao” means “sandal strap”. [edit, courtesy of A Distant Red] “(…) breaking of a sandal strap is considered a sign of misfortune, so it can be seen as “so that no misfortune will befall you.” It is quite a roundabout way to say so, but is quite poetic.”
– 貴方だけはどうか (anata dake wa douka) the sentence stops here. I think it would continue as “please, at least you SURVIVE”, but being implied in japanese, it’s not written.
– 未来 (mirai) meaning “future” is, instead, read as “ashita”, meaning tomorrow. Reason? Don’t know. Meaning? Pretty much the same.

Notes:

– Thanks to Violet for the lyrics again, and also for pointing me out that the guitar solo at 0:19 sounds exactly like Reincarnation, theme of Mima from Phantasmagoria of Dimensional Dream. I mean, They’re identical.
– “This shout roars like an explosion!” Refers to the previous sentence, “Come on, let’s risk everything and fight!”
– 勝利刻め強く (shouri kizame tsuyoku) (let’s engrave victory in our mind) should be “let’s strongly engrave victory”, but it also implies something like “let’s think strongly that we’re going to win”, so I found that version of mine more fitting.
– Remember that we’re talking about battleships, so terms such as “body of steel” or “digits” should not be so out of place.

Empire Ensemble – 愛しさの果てに

tr

It’s been a long time since last Kancolle post.
One of the first kancolle-arrange album I’ve listened to (most likely THE first) is 陽はまた昇る (you wa mata noboru), of which I’ve already translated more than a month ago another track, 君は進む.
If that was the track I liked the most out of this CD, 愛しさの果てに (aishisa no hate ni) surely comes right after it.
As you probably already figured out, I love Nakae Mitsuki, singer from the circle I’m trying to spreading around as much as possible, ABSOLUTE CASTAWAY.
Her voice perfectly fits for this song.
Also, there are songs which one can understand its lyrics even without reading them. That’s not the case of this song.
Truth is, it’s like its stanzas dosn’t exist at all. It’s quite difficult to keep up with the vocals while reading it, because it has a messed up rhythm that, oddly enough, it’s not bad at all.
I think it’s also one of the most mysterious song from this album.
Its lyrics are so sweet they don’t seem to fit in a fast-paced song. And on top of that, its rhythm is quite cheerful despite its lyrics being not quite the same.
The mystery is that everything strangely works fine.
Also, as a pic for this post I decided to display Tatsuta because she also appears in the booklet’s lyrics’ page for this song. And Tenryuu too, of course.
Nothing else to say, I hope you’ll enjoy it!

Made you, so gentle, by my side

いつからだろう
そして編成 近代化改修
あなたとまたそこに

itsu kara darou
soshite hensei kindaika kaishuu
anata to mata soko ni

I wonder since when?
And then organizations, modernizations, improvements
Once again, in that place, with you

幾重にも重なる過去と未来
進撃 退却 そして傷つきけがされ

ikue ni mo kasanaru kako to mirai
shingeki taikyaku soshite kizutsukike ga sare

Even if it repeats, our piled up past and future
Attacks, withdrawals, and than our pain that goes away

またそして私は行く あなたとの暖かさを感じて
貫かれたからだ ひとやすみ
ぶつかっていく 砕かれても壊れず
この意思はけして 壊れずにまっすぐに

mata soshite watashi wa yuku anata to no atatakasa o kanjite
tsuranakareta karada hitoyasumi
butsukatteiku kudakaretemo kowarezu
kono ishi wa keshite kowarezu ni massugu ni

After that, I’ll go again, feeling the warmth coming from you
A rest for my pierced body
Even if I’d collide and be smashed, without breaking
My purpose will proceed forward, without breaking

いつからだろう それに気がつく
またあなたとともに
あなたとふたり使える様に開発するの

itsu kara darou sore ni ki ga tsuku
mata anata to tomo ni
anata to futari tsukaeru you ni kaihatsu suru no

I wonder since when… and then I realize
I’m together with you, again
I feel like I’m growing, when we’re used together as one

幾重にも連なった かち まけ
小破 中破 大破 轟沈

ikue ni mo tsuranatta kachi make
shouha chuuha taiha gouchin

Repeated continuous victories and losses
Small, medium and heavy damages, ships sinking instantly

また私は逝く あなたの優しさ感じて
壊されたからだ ひとやすみするのは深い海のした
ぶつかっていく 砕かれても壊れず

mata watashi wa iku anata no yasashisa kanjite
kowasareta karada hitoyasumi suru no wa fukai umi no shita
butsukatteiku kudakaretemo kowarezu

I’m dying again, I’m feeling your warmth
What can give a rest for my destroyed body is the bottom of a deep sea
Even if I’d collide and be smashed, without breaking…

あなたを感じて

anata o kanjite

…I’m feeling you
