YURiCa – moonlit oath

izayoi ni furisosogu gin’iro no tsukiakari
mayoigo o michibiki sasou no daremo inai mori no fukaku e

The silver moonlight pours into the night after the full moon,
Inviting and guiding the stray children into the depth of an uninhabited forest

namae mo nai shoujo no na mo naki tabiji wa
shirarenai mama ni kiri ni kiete itta
sou sore wa sadamerarete ita koto da to
ima wa mayoi naku ieru wa

The unnamed voyage of the girl with no name
Disappeared into the mist as it stayed unknown;
Yes, I could now say without hesitate
That this was a thing fated to happen.

kedakaki iro kurenai no hitomi
anata no tame ni

I was just there, by myself, in an endless world where time has stopped,
Crying without carring my trembling loneliness with both my arms;
My frozen heart, full of cracks, will in no time gave birth again
To the sublime crimson color of my eyes
For your sake.

kono saki e susumu nara kaerimichi nado nai wa
hiramekaseta kono naifu kara
daremo nogarerare wa shinai no

If you intend to proceed towards what lies next, there’s no way back;
I won’t let anyone escape
From this knife I’m brandishing.

namae mo nai dareka no koe naki sakebi wa
shirarenai mama ni kiri ni nomarete yuku
sou sore wa hitsuzen sugiru ketsumatsu to
fukai yami ni muke warau no

The voiceless scream of someone without a name
Is being swallowed by the mist, as it stays unknown;
Yes, this is the inevitable conclusion.
And I face the darkness, laughing.

kuruizaita tsuki no hikari ga mabushiku watashi o terasu
tsumiageteku musuu no tsumi mo nanihitotsu osore wa shinai
kizutsuite mo itami ga kitto watashi wo furuitataseru
tsumazuite mo taoreta toshite mo
anata no tame ni tatakau

The out of place light of the moon faintly irradiates me:
I have no fear of the countless sins I piled up.
Even if I’d get injured, the pain will surely cheer me up;
Even if I’d stumble, even if I’d be beaten,
I’ll fight for you.

akaku yogoreta te demo mayoi naku chikau wa

I promise not to lose myself even if my hands will be stained in crimson.

kedakaki iro kurenai no hitomi
anata no tame ni

I was just there, by myself, in an endless world where time has stopped,
Crying without carring my trembling loneliness with both my arms;
My frozen heart, full of cracks, will in no time gave birth again
To the sublime crimson color of my eyes
For your sake.

Notes:

– 十六夜 (izayoi), right at the beginning. An ancient japanese way to call the day after the day of the full moon (十五夜~juugoya). Obviously, that’s also a pun/reference to Sakuya’s surname itself, Izayoi.
– 狂い咲いた月の光 (the out of place light of the moon). The verb “kuraizaku” it’s not exactly how I translated it. It means “To bloom out of season”. If the subject was a flower, I would have kept this meaning, but being the subject the moon’s light, I found it… strange. So, I wrote “out of place” instead of it, being fitting and having almost the same meaning.
(I promise not to lose myself even if my hands will be stained in crimson). Double possible meaning in both segments. First of all, “stain” is not exactly “stain”, rather than “get dirty”. I didn’t know how to put this elegantly, so I choose “stained”. Second, the verb “mayou” (迷う) has a lots of meaning. I translated here as “not losing myself”, but could also mean (with the “NAKI” that negates the verb) “not losing one’s way”, or “without hesitating” or such.

About foregroundnoises

I love music more than everything; I'm also a (shamefully mediocre) bass player and wannabe composer / writer (only in my dreams). Also interested in astronomy, traveling, theatre, literature, poetry, art, movies, mostly everything from Japan and other stuff. I'm also okay with anime stuff as long as I don't have to deal with weeaboos. Touhou project? Love it! Gaki no Tsukai? Love it! Foreground Eclipse? Of course I love them! I'm an university student, I study japanese since years for unknown reasons and I managed to get a degree on japanese language & culture (currently 進学中). I'm italian, but I can (almost) perfectly understand english.
