yami no naka sasu kasa
akai ame hajiku oto ga noizu to kashite
itsumade tattemo susumanai shiori
sotto nadete wa namida o kobosu

An umbrella raised into the darkness,
The sound of the falling red rain turns into a noise;
A bookmark which for how many times I pass, I can’t get trough,
What caress me gently, are my own flowing tears

hitomi tojireba iro azayakana
sekai ni tsutsumarete yume o mireru
kuroi peeji no kuroi mojiretsu sae mo
nido to mitakunai wa

If I’d close my eyes, I would be able to dream
A world where I’m wrapped in vivid colors;
Those black pages and even those black characters…
…I don’t want to see them one more time.

mabushii yami ni me ga kurami
utakata ni te o nobasu
sakenda senritsu wa barabara ni chiru
samayoenai maigo

Inside the dazzling darkness, my sight gets lost;
I reach out my hand towards the ephemeral
The screamed melody falls as it scatters all over:
I’m a non-wandering stray child.

moji kotoba kiyasume no rikutsu
sonna mono zenbu wazurawashii no
atama ga waresou

The reason of letters, words or consolations…
Those things are so complicated and annoying…
I feel like my head’s splitting in half…

watashi o okoshite…

When night falls, what I’m yelling
Is something wrapped in fantasy, an imaginary page
Wake me up…

nibiiro no sora
utsubushi no kaze
akai shangurira
kuroi paradaimu
yume ja nai kara mizukara nozomanakereba
mezameru koto wa nai

A dark grey sky,
A lowering wind,
A red Shangri-La,
A black paradigm,
I have to pray by myself, not being all of this a dream:
I can’t wake up.

moshi sora ga haretanara
kireina hana o sakasetai
moshi soko ni dareka ga iru nara oshiete
watashi wa nani o miteiru no kana

If the sky would clear up
I want to let bloom beautiful flowers;
If there was someone out there, please, let me know
Just what am I looking at right now.

moji ni dekinai kotoba ga hoshii no
koe o koroshite sakebu
mabuta no ura de hajikeru shinario
shiroi hana ga saita

I want words that can’t be wrote down
And scream until my voice dies
In the scenario that opens behind my eyelids
Lies a bloomed white flower

mabushii yami ni me o hosome
shiori no arika o sagasu ah
tsumotta noizu o harainoketara
kasa o tojite
“sono peeji” o mekuru

In the dazzling darkness, I open my eyes slighty
As I search for the location of the bookmark… ah
The piled up noise has been brushed away
So I close my umbrella
And tear off “that page”.

Notes:

– Thanks to Violet for finding me the lyrics for this song!
– そんなもの全部煩わしいの (sonna mono zenbu wazurawashii no) I’ve translated this as “Those things are so complicated and annoying”. Actually, 煩わしい itself means “annoying” OR “complicated”, but finding them both very fitting, I prefered to leave both its meanings. Just read them both or the one you like the most!
– 空五倍子 is read at “utsubushi”, meaning “low”. Thanks again to Violet for pinpointing that out before I could work on the translation!
– 赤いシャングリラ (akai Shangri-La) Shangri-La is the name of the fictional perfect city from the early 90’s novel Lost Horizon, later also become a common name to express the concept of “utopy”.
– 文字にできない言葉が欲しいの (moji ni dekinai kotoba ga hoshii no) “I want words that can’t be wrote down” sounds kinda nonsensical in english, but the word “moji” which I translated with “words” (because it makes a lot more sense in english) actually stands for “character”, though implying kanjis rather than actual words. That’s why it makes a lot more sense in japanese rather than english. Keep in mind that “moji” is more “kanji” than “word”, and everything will make more sense… hopefully.

And be able to overcome even the unchanging darkness;

Notes:

– In the first stanza, the word “心” (kokoro), as even a non-japanese-student knows, means “heart”. But not like the organ we all have (that would be 心臓, shinzou). It’s the concept of “heart” that could also mean “one’s self”, “one’s spirit”, “one’s mind”. Therefore, in order not to repeat the word “heart” two times, I decided to translate it as “spirit”.
– 心音-ヌクモリ- There’s the word 心音 (shin’on, sound of one’s heart) and the word -ヌクモリ- (nukumori, wrote in katakana, meaning “warmth”) next to it, according to the official booklet. Shin’on isn’t read, and “nukumori” is the reading they decided to give to the two kanjis compound.
– 理由 in the second stanza should be read as “riyuu”, but it is, instead, read as “wake”. They both mean “reason”, “meaning”, so it’s not a big deal.
– 僕の鼓動に (boku no kodou ni) I translated it as “in my heart’s pulsation”, even though there’s no word for “heart”. For two reasons: the first being that it’s obvious it’s talking about a heart, the second being that instead of that I would have wrote “my throbbings” or such, which I already used in other translation and didn’t feel like putting in this one too.
– 晴れぬ闇 (harenu yami) I translated it as “unchanging darkness”, because “harenu” means “that doesn’t brighten up”. “Darkness that doesn’t brighten up”, at least to me, sounds kinda stupid. “Unchanging darkness” fits more, in my opinion.

sunflower fairy

Flower of the Past – Fairy of Flower is a nice theme which was supposed to be featured in Perfect Cherry Blossom but wasn’t actually part of it, in the final game.
Anyway, it was released as part of Ghostly Field Club, one of the music albums by ZUN.
While I can’t compare this to other ZUN’s masterpieces, this theme as quite an unique vibe, that the song I’m posting today, 永遠の花が降る (eien no hana ga furu) perfectly keeps.
The song’s lyrics themselves doesn’t seem (at least to me) to be that related to Mary-Renko or Maryrenko.

eien ga mieru koto, kimi wa shiranai furi de
kuttaku naku warau kara
nakisou ni naru

You pretend not to know something that can be seen eternally,
And because you laugh in such a carefree way
It almost makes me cry

odayaka ni hirogaru sora
maiagaru hanabira
sukoshi saki o aruku kimi no ato
muse kaeru hana, kakiwakete

In the sky that extends into calmness,
The flower petals are whirled up
And just before the path you’re walking,
The choking flowers push their way through

yubi de tsukuru fureemu
kimi o tojikomete mo ii no kana

I wonder if I could lock you up
In a frame produced with my own fingers…

eien ga mieru koto, kimi wa shiranai furi de
kuttaku naku warau kara
nakisou ni naru

You pretend not to know something that can be seen eternally,
And because you laugh in such a carefree way
It almost makes me cry

“futari bocchi da yo” nante
kimi wa ureshisou ni iu
sono kao, ato dore kurai mitsumerareru?

“Completely alone together”, that’s
What you said, looking happy…
But for how much long I’ll be able to see that face?

kyuu ni furimuita kimi ga
atsumeta hanabira kaze ni nosete

Suddenly, as you turn around,
You let the petals you gathered fly with the wind…

“zutto issho ni iyoune” nante itteru kedo
uso wa kikitakunai yo

“Let’s be together forever” that’s what you said but
I don’t want to hear such a lie.

furitsudzuku hana wa boku
kimi o daku wakarebana
tsunaida te, gyuttoshiteite mou sukoshi dake

The flowers that keep raining are me;
The flowers of goodbye you’re grasping…
Don’t let go the hand you’re holding, just for a little more…

boku ga moratta shiawase bun no hanataba o ageru

I’ll give you that bouquet of share of happiness I received;
So we’ll be alone together, forever, in the eternity…

Notes:

– On the third stanza the word 額縁 (gakubuchi) which means “picture frame”, is pronounced as フレーム (fureemu), katakana word for “frame”.
So, the meaning doesn’t change, while the word does.

Notes:

– アサガオ (asagao, third stanza) is the name for the Japanese morning glory (a flower). Finding “morning glory” way too… weird? to put into my translation, I left it “asagao”. That’s also because it doesn’t refer to a common morning glory, but only to the japanese specimen.
– On the same stanza, Cyrtanthus is another flower. Having its own (almost identical) translation, I prefered to put its english name rather than its katakana transcription.

CLOCKWORKS TRACER – Shangri-La in Bloom Last Post: The Anonymous Song & Clockwork Tracers -rebloom-

So, as I stated on a previous post, only two songs from Shangri-La in Bloom are left. We’re talking about Clockwork Tracers -rebloom- and The Anonymous Song (also, there’s an interlude too… but it’s an instrumental, so…).
Being two songs mostly in english (so, that’s not quite our usual translation posts), I’ve decided to post them together in a single post.
Ladies and gentlemen, the first ever double-post in foregroundnoises‘ history!

CLOCKWORK TRACERS – The Anonymous Song

anonymous

So, the first one for this post will be The Anonymous Song. This one has no japanese lyrics, so I’ll just leave its english lyrics untouched.
An arrange from a theme that I personally like a lot, Song of the Night Sparrow ~ Night Bird.
That’s one of the best stage theme in the whole Touhou series, in my opinion.
I would have love it if it was fully in japanese. And that’s not because I don’t like english songs. I have more english songs than japanese songs in my iPod!
As I said before… I’m not really a fan of engrish.

CLOCKWORK TRACERS – The Anonymous Song

Take flight and fuck up!

Darkness descends faster than a light
This Oppression makes us suffer and conquers the weak
Before I lose anymore, we must struggle against the coercion now

Sharpen all your senses
It’s so easy to feel my existence
There is only the truth “We’re not alone”
This is the time to fuckin’ unite
This is the flight to the freedom

Light for the blinded eyes!(Take aim our target at)
Fight for the frightened mind!(We’re legion)
The true shine casts rays on the false blindness
So here I am
Light for the blinded eyes!(Take aim our target at)
Fight for the frightened mind!(We’re legion)
Someday I’ll take you to that sky with a little hope

Start the insurrection, light a counter rocket
Enemies are within our hearts
Trust ourselves, confide in yourself
Strain your eyes, this is our way to go

Light for the blinded eyes!(Take aim our target at)
Fight for the frightened mind!(We’re legion)
The true shine casts rays on the false blindness
So here I am
Light for the blinded eyes!(Take aim our target at)
Fight for the frightened mind!(We’re legion)
Someday I’ll take you to that sky, so please follow me
Ah…

CLOCKWORK TRACERS – Clockwork Tracers -rebloom-

clockwork

Lunar Clock ~ Luna Dial. I love its arranges while I don’t find the original theme that appealing.
I must say, I prefer Flowering Night a lot! But when it comes to arranges, it’s the opposite.
Just as the other song, this one is mostly in english too.
WeatherH has 2 japanese stanzas, while Yapan fully screams in english. (My bad, actually in this track the screams are performed by さわけん (Sawaken) [Virginhate].
Just as Drowning Emotion Has A Short-lived Dream, this song has “rebloom” in its title.
I’m guessing they’re remake of songs they’ve already done on other CDs / original works. But since finding Clockwork Tracers stuff online is almost impossible, I can’t guarantee it.
On a side now, I decided to leave this one for last (Though I wanted it to be This Is Who I Am) because having in the title the name of the band, it kinda feels like it has not a “final boss” vibe but rather a “staff roll” theme vibe. Don’t you think? No, ok… I’m just crazy.

CLOCKWORK TRACERS – Clockwork Tracers -rebloom-

The stopped time since who-knows-when, a second hand misdirects
It stayed broken
winding up with her hand, gears began to mesh
The dial starts to move slowly

Oh god, the demise is not on your hand
Damn it! I’ll stab this fate to fall!

Elegance for the lifeless, perfection for the pledge
Vanish the mirage
Edges for the tyranny, acing for the allegiance
Tracing beyond the end of my world

itetsuku sekai no naka ni shirogane saku karakuri
tomosu hiiro o yadoshi ugokidasu

In the frozen up world, a tore apart silver mechanism
Carries a scarlet light as it moves on…

Tear it up!!

(In bloom)

jikan shikake no kono mi ni owari no nai chikai o
kizamu hari tomaru made yoru ni saite (in bloom)

In this clockwork body of mine, I’ll make this endless oath
Bloom in the night, until the engraved clockhand stops (in bloom)

Notes:

– “Frozen up World” in the first stanza, I mean it to be “A world where the time is stopped, thus is frozen”. Obvious reference to Sakuya.
– Also, probably the first stanza refers to Sakuya (the silver mechanism) meeting with Remilia (the scarlet light)
– 夜に咲いて (yoru ni saite) I think that may be a pun on Sakuya’s name, wrote with the same kanjis (咲夜), meaning “Night of bloom” or “Blooming night”.
– According to the official lyrics, the text is like that. But the first stanza is actually repeated two time: one during the first half, and the other on the last half of the song. The last stanza is repeated only once.

manjusyage

【Requested by yAMAiNOS

I think that would be the first time ever I’ve been requested a song that I already knew, from a circle that I still enjoy today, despite being part of my “early touhou phase”: register6.
A thing that probably most of people don’t know is that Komachi is one of my favourite Touhou character (or probably my favourite one).
So, it’s obvious that I’d know a CD with such an awesome Komachi picture on its cover (which I also used for this post due unbearable awesomeness)!
Also, there are so many arrange of Komachi’s theme that I love. My personal best three are Vermillion Halo (obviously), hitokata and 冷酷なる河のほとりで (that I need to translate… mh).
Manjushage is an awesome arrange too. The title “manjushage” is a synonym for “higanbana“, the red spider lilies that in buddhist mythology are a symbol of buddhist afterlife. They’re stricly linked to Sanzu no Kawa, the buddhist version of river Styx, which is the place where Komachi works in the Touhou series.
And so, it’s pretty obvious that the song focuses on these things.
Departing souls, a river that must be crossed, red spider lilies losing their petals, buddhist references and talk about life, death and reincarnation.
The lyrics for this song fit very well with everything.
Though Komachi is often portrayed as a cheerful and lazy character, we shouldn’t forget that she’s a shinigami, a God of death, and so, she’s not that kind of character that hasn’t a serious side.
Luckily, most of the songs that are arranges of her theme have nice lyrics (just like this one) that don’t put Komachi to shame. Nice!

shiromi dashita sora no hate ake no hoshi o aogi miru
hikisakareta kanashimi no yukue wa kawa no mukou

At the end of the whitening sky I look up to the radiant stars
The whereabouts of my ripped sadness lies beyond the river

inochi mijikashi hito no hate tama o watasu kogi fune wa
hikuteamata tomedonaku rokusen chiru hana no you

My boat that ferries the spirits of men’s short lives…
A service that won’t ever stop, just as 6000 falling flowers…

“joushahissui” “eikoseisui”
“rinnetenshou” “ekou” “shogyoumujou”

“the prosperous must decay”, “life has ups and downs”
“everything is part of samsara”, “prayers for the departed”, “words are transitory”

kieteyuku inochi no tomoshibi no kiwa o namida de okuru
ka no kishi ni mata hitotsu saiteta akai hana

I’ll deliver with tears the light of your vanishing life
As, once again, on the other side of the shore, a crimson flower blossoms.

kasumiyuku kagayaki ga potsupotsu to kawagiri no mukou e

The blurred radiance disappears bit by bit into the river mist…

kieteyuku inochi no tomoshibi no kiwa o namida de okuru
ka no kishi ni mata hitotsu saiteta akai hana

I’ll deliver with tears the light of your vanishing life
As, once again, on the other side of the shore, a crimson flower blossoms.

utsuro naru kanashiki negai ga mezasu sono yukusue ni
semetemo no hanamuke no kotoba o “yasuraka ni”

My sad wish becomes hollow, aiming to my destiny;
At least a farewell message: “Rest in peace”.

Notes:

All of those seems to be buddhist proverbs. I couldn’t figure out their meaning just by analyzing their kanjis, but luckily there’s a pre-made translation for each of them. “Samsara” is the endless cycle of life, death and reincarnation in buddhist religion.
(As, once again, on the other side of the shore, a crimson flower blossoms) In other words, the “other side of the shore” is the afterlife, and the crimson flower (a higanbana/manjushage/spiderlily) is the departed soul. Red spider lilies are a symbol of departed souls, that appears near Sanzu no Kawa’s shore.

CLOCKWORKS TRACER – This Is Who I Am

whoiam

We’re almost done with Shangri-La in Bloom.
With this one, only two tracks are left. This is Who I Am is the last track (in order) from that CD, and, at least to me, it kinda has that “last song of an album” vibe. I’d wish to leave this last, but I’ve decided not to, for another reason.
The two remaining songs are mostly 100% in english, so, I’ll post them together in a single post very soon. Being not a “translation post” (or quite much it), I prefered leave the remaining two for last, though I noticed that there are some people wanting to read their lyrics.
So fear not, they’ll pop out on foregroundnoises in a couple of days!
As I stated before, this song is an amazing entry to Shangri-La in Bloom, one of my favourite touhou doujin CDs ever.
Being an arrange from Oriental Memory of Foregathering Dream, Immaterial and Missing Power‘s staff roll theme, it surely got the right vibe.

CLOCKWORKS TRACER – This Is Who I Am

背中 (just go) 押され (for it) 今箱庭を飛び出すのさ

ano hi nakushita mono wa sou nanigenai hibi no naka
osaekirenai kono mune no takanari ga yonderu
senaka (just go) osare (for it) ima hakoniwa o tobidasu no sa
utsutsu no saki e

The thing I’ve lost that day was without a doubt something inside my casual daily life;
That unstoppable violent throb inside my chest is calling me…
And now, it is (just go) pushing me (for it) from the miniature garden
Towards what lies before reality!

nani ga arou to shibarare wa shinai watashi ga watashi de aru koto
sukoshi dake sekai ga iro azayaka ni utsuru sono asu e

The treasure hunting has already begun, as well as the lonely tear-stained days,
Let’s leave them all behind, for I do not need lies nor falseness;
I won’t care about what is there, for the fact that I am who I am
Is enough to make the world a little more vivid, projecting towards tomorrow!

(Let’s sing along and make some noise)

yumeiro ni hikaru sora mo koiiro yureru kumo mo
nani hitotsu kawarazu ni yasashiku mukaete kureru
dakara (Let’s sing along and make some noise)
atsumaru no sa egao to kensou ni tsutsumarete

The sky shining in the color of dreams, and the clouds shaking in the color of love
Without having changed a bit, they gently greet me
So… (let’s sing along and make some noise)
Let’s gather everyone and be wrapped in smiles and great noise!

Get the fuckin’ movin’ on!
This is who I am, there’s nothing to hinder me (nothing to hinder me)
Look, here is everything you forget (everything you forget)

nani ga arou to shibarare wa shinai kimi ga kimi rashiku aru koto

The treasure hunting has already begun, as well as the lonely tear-stained days,
Let’s leave them all behind, for I do not need lies nor falseness;
I won’t care about what is there, for I’ll wait forever
To see that You are just You: I’ll accept everything belonging to this world!
